Secondly, Teen Mom and 16 and pregnant manage to portray a fairy book style romance. Most of the couplels that are on the show try really hard to work things out and stay together. Alot of couples will admit that they are only together because of the sake of the baby. This shows to the girls that even if their boyfriend doesnt want them she can make him stay simply because she has his baby. So many couples decide to try and work things out and girls may feel that they can do the same thing with their boyfriend. Alot of the couples end up getting married which is unrealistic.
I interviewed Tamara Johnson, a young girl who became pregnant at the age of 16. She said when she got pregnant she had been having problems with her boyfriend so she was excited about the baby thinking it would solidify their relationship. She was with her babies' father all throughout the pregnacy. She was convinced she would have her own little family and he would ask her to marry him like the guys on 16 and Pregnant had. She was heartbroken when he decided to break up with her after the baby was finally born.
Rebuttal: There are a couple of couples who work out. For instance the newest couple on teen mom Jordan and Brian seem like the perfect couple. Brian gave up a full scholarship to go to a communtiy college to be closer to his new famile. Jordan's grandmother allowed Brian to move in the same house as her and her grandmother. Alot of other couples have contemplated marriage as well.
Refutation: Although alot of couples work out there are even more on the show who dont. So many of the fairy tale like relationships end in yelling matches and sometimes even alerting the officials. The new parents have to deal with the grandparents of their child and the dissapointment that comes with that, but they must also deal with changing and shifting relationships they had before they got pregnant with the baby.
