On Janurary 19 Starbucks announced that customers would be able to use the mobile app on their phone to pay for their orders. The new app will not only let people add their Starbucks Cards, but they will also be able to track rewards and reload cards as needed via PayPal or credit card. The app will come with a "touch to pay button" and they will be able to hold up the barcode on their screen and scan it at the register.
Starbucks is becoming pioneers in New Media affecting companies. They have realized that most consumers always have their smart phone on their person, and will often times grab the phone before they think about grabbing a purse or wallet. I predict that if Starbucks can prove their new app to be a success there will be tons of companies adapting their own form of mobile payments. Pretty soon future generations will only know of mobile payments.

This is a wonderful idea for Starbucks to have and implement. my biggest concern is identity theft and many complications can go wrong. It's imperative to have a mindset like the consumers and understand they want to always be on the go, however; Starbucks must take into account these two very important points.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the author that this is a very good idea. I think that once the public becomes more aware of this strategy, more companies will adapt to it.
ReplyDeleteI think Starbucks is so innovative and resourceful for coming up with this. The iPhone has grown to become one of the world's more popular phones so using it as a business incentive will only increase the company's popularity. I have an iPhone myself and I love Starbucks so someone like me would definitely use this app to my advantage. I think other food companies should adopt this same exact method. It would make my life so much easier!
